Prayer

Call to Prayer PDF Print E-mail

We see how important it is to be steeped in prayer in order to better serve others. We acknowledge the importance of listening to the Lord's word, and we strive to always seek and ask Him for it when making decisions.

Whether we are alone with the Lord or at the centre of the ‘marketplace', prayer is the root, heart, and lifeline in all we do. We are committed to a rhythm in our prayer life on a daily, weekly, and annual basis. We seek to encounter Christ in our personal and communal prayer. We exercise the gifts of the Holy Spirit to whom we are continually open.

As Fr. Bob says, our personal relationship with God flows from

Servants of the Cross at Mass... a commitment from me to spend daily time with him. It is only in this way that he can effectively deal with me, straighten me out when I need it, and keep me reasonably on track. Jesus calls us into friendship with him, with the Father and with the Holy Spirit. To be friends, we have to spend time together.
-(Fr. Bob Bedard, We are called to be Companions of the Cross, 1994)

Our prayer life is a response to His desire to be united with us and we seek to attain this union with Him through the victory of His Cross.

His Mother said to the servers,
"Do whatever He tells you."
John 2:5

Prayer for Vocations

We turn to Mary, who supported the first community where "all these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer" (Acts 1:14), so that she may help the Church in today's world to be an icon of the Trinity, an eloquent sign of divine love for all people.

May the Virgin, who promptly answered the call of the Father saying, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord" (Lk 1:38), intercede so that the Christian people will not lack servants of divine joy: priests who, in communion with their Bishops, announce the Gospel faithfully and celebrate the sacraments, take care of the people of God, and are ready to evangelize all humanity.  May she ensure, also in our times, an increase in the number of consecrated persons, who go against the current, (...) and give witness in a prophetic way to Christ and his liberating message of salvation.

Pope Benedict XVI, February 10, 2007
